We Are AAM - Claire

Claire joined our Hands & Voices choir in 2017 and has been a big part of the choir ever since. We had a chat with her about how she came to be part of AAM.

How long have you been part of AAM?

I've been in Hands and Voices since January 2017 but before that, you could call me a follower as I always went to concerts as and when I could. I needed something to cheer me up after breaking my leg and a long process of rehabilitation, the year before.

What sessions do you attend, what do you do in them and what do you enjoy most about them?

I go to Hands and voices on a Wednesday evening at York High School, which is our new venue, after being at Burton Stone community centre.

How has being part of AAM helped you?

I enjoy singing and signing, which is new to me, but I find it very enjoyable. We have a laugh and I am making new friends.
I have also had fun taking part in the various concerts we have done, especially singing at the Barbican last April. My family enjoy them too! Christmas busking outside (cold!) gave us all a buzz as well as raising lots of money for AAM.

Tell us one random fact about yourself!

I have abseiled off the Tyne bridge in Newcastle to raise money towards a school lift to enable me to stay on to 6th form and, years later, others can use it too.
