We're finalists in this year's York Culture Awards!

We're proud as punch to announce that our Cabaret of Dreams production has been shortlisted for the Best Cultural Experience in the 2018 York Culture Awards.

The show was written and performed by members of our Hands & Voices choir, with films made by our AbleWeb group and brilliant props created by members of our Sensory Programme. It shone a light on the cast's memories, dreams and hopes for the future and showcased their diverse talents, skills and personalities.

It's great to see Hands & Voices' show shortlisted alongside two fantastic professional arts organisations (the other finalists are York Theatre Royal's production of The Secret Garden and Shakespeare's Rose Theatre). We firmly believe that great cultural experiences come in all shapes and sizes and can involve people with a wide range of skills and abilities. It's great to see that reflected in the shortlisted finalists for this award.

York Culture Awards were established in 2016 to celebrate excellence in the arts and culture sector and reward outstanding innovation, creativity and quality. This is the second time one of our projects has made the final - our IMPs (Inclusive Music Projects) programme won the Cultural Equality & Diversity Award at the inaugural ceremony. And our Creative Director, Rose, was named York's first Cultural Champion, in recognition of a lifetime's contribution to the cultural life of the city.

Big thanks to the judges for shortlisting Cabaret of Dreams, and good luck to all the other finalists - we're very proud to be in such great company!
