Will you join us in the 2.6 Challenge?

Here at AAM we’re all really missing seeing everyone at our sessions and we’re especially missing all the fun we’d normally be having together.

So, we're inviting you to join us on the 2.6 Challenge. We think it’s a fab way for us all to have loads of fun at home and get together (virtually!) with friends and family. It's also a really easy way for us all to raise money for Accessible Arts & Media.

Why are we asking you to join us in the 2.6 Challenge?

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve had to cancel all our group sessions and activities for the next few months. In addition, all of our fundraising events for the next 6 months have also, understandably, been cancelled. We know we’re not alone – charities across the UK are losing billions of pounds in fundraising income over the next 6 months.

In response, the people behind major fundraising events like the London Marathon have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help the UK’s charities.

What is the 2.6 Challenge?

The idea of the 2.6 challenge is to take part in an activity of your choice, based around the numbers 2.6 or 26, and fundraise or donate to support Accessible Arts & Media. You can be as creative as you like with your activity. And, you know us, the more fun it is, the better!

The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26 April – which should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon – and people all across the UK will be taking part. Most people are taking part from Sunday 26 April, but you can do your activity whenever works best for you.

It’s really important to remember when taking part in the challenge that you must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.

You’ll find information below on how to join in, as well as some ideas we’ve come up with to help you get started.

The team here at Accessible Arts & Media are going to be taking part too and we’ll be sharing our challenges on our social media.

We hope you'll join us!

Some ideas to get you started

You can do whatever you want as part of the 2.6 Challenge. The key thing is that it involves the numbers 2 and 6 and that you have a lot of fun!

We’ve already got our thinking caps on. Here are some of our suggestions for things you could do:

  • You could do 2.6 or 26 laps of your garden – walking, rolling, running, hopping, dancing or even swimming!

  • You could use 2 instruments to play along with 6 of your favourite songs. Or 6 instruments to play along with 2 songs!

  • You could draw 26 amazing dinosaurs. Or elephants. Or gnomes. Or robots. Or whatever you love drawing the most!

  • You could do a sponsored silence for 26 minutes. Or 2.6 minutes!

  • You could bake 26 delicious cupcakes or biscuits.
  • You could have a chair danceathon for 26 minutes or 2.6 hours (that’s 2 hours and 36 minutes)!

  • You could try and wear 26 t-shirts at once. Or 26 hats!

  • You could choose 26 Lego pieces and make 26 awesome models with them.
  • You could get your pets involved too – why not throw your ball for your dog 26 times?

Whatever you do, we know you’ll come up with some brilliant ideas – make sure you let us know about them!
