Laughs, Lyrics & You! - Magnificent projects and superstar soloists!

On Sunday 26th October, participants from Hands & VoicesIMPs and Movers & Shakers took to the stage for another AAM-azing performance. Laughs, Lyrics & You was an event built around the theme of open mic, and everyone took on the challenge fantastically!

Like any other Accessible Arts & Media performance, there was lots to see.

IMPs took to the stage first to get everyone involved in a body percussion warm-up led by IMPs member, Jessica. After everyone was warmed-up and ready to go, IMPs performed their newest hit - a song all about aliens! This was written for Pilot Theatre's  ‘A Guide to Now’ project, where groups around York contributed films for a digital installation in libraries across the city.

Movers and Shakers were next up to showcase their Autumn Story. They'd come up with a list of their favourite things about Autumn and made an autumnal soundtrack to accompany it. As always, audience participation was encouraged - a special highlight were the fireworks everyone created with their voices and bodies.

Hands and Voices really pushed their skills this term with soloists, singing in parts and ukulele playing! We had soloists singing the verses in ‘Summer Nights’ with the choir as backing singers. Lauren and Will did a signing duet with Joel singing solo whilst the choir performed a fabulous dance routine! Not to forget the marvellous group of ukulele players in The Lava Song - they’d learnt to play the ukulele in 6 weeks! Fantastic!

And the open mic – wow!  We had six very talented soloists perform. For some, this was their very first time performing solo, and others performed songs and stories they'd written themselves. You’re all superstars!

And that’s not all! Our fab volunteers were on brilliant form, helping with bucket collections, holding the fort on our merchandise stall, and not to mention the amazing café team. We couldn’t have done it without them. Thanks again to our brilliant performers, our wonderful guests and our fab supporters and audience members for a super afternoon of talent!
